Do you want to understand what it means to go viral?

This great session explains why you should usually post at least 3-4 times a day to FB about what you are doing or perhaps sometimes about your business, other times a quote or something inspirational, or what I' doing. etc. Great to know about being able to post on other sites and have it post automatically too.

Watchout a Facebook Worm is About

This is icon for social networking website. Th...Image via Wikipedia
Thousands of Facebook users are being attacked by a nasty Facebook worm that forces you to “like” a Facebook page, which then automatically spreads it through a user’s wall. According to SocialToo’s Jesse Stay, the scammers have figured out a way to exploit the “Like” button via Javascript and are using it to force users to like the page, thus spreading it inadvertently through postings on Facebook walls. The result is thousands of wall posts for a page entitled “Shocking! This girl killed herself after her dad posted this photo.” Clicking the link enclosed spreads the worm further. Unfortunately, this is not the first time we’ve heard of such an exploit, but according to Facebook Search, a lot of people have been affected by this one. Do not click any of these links or go to this Facebook page. It will force you to like the page and spread the worm further. As far as we can tell though, the exploit doesn’t compromise your account or steal your password. We’ve put an e-mail out to the Facebook team for more information.http://www.facebook.com/FanExchange

The phenomenon known as Facebook could continue as they just. introduced a service making it easier for users to share their whereabouts with other people
Some see this as unique whilst others says it is defensive against market challenger Foursquare Labs Inc.
The new Facebook feature is called Places, aimed at helping Facebook members find friends and disclose their own location, Facebook Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg said yesterday. Places works with existing location-aware tools offered by Foursquare, as well as Gowalla Inc.,
Services that help Web users share their whereabouts and find nearby friends could generate as much as $4.1 billion in annual ad sales by 2015, according to Borrell Associates. The features can help marketers more easily target customers -- say, by reaching shoppers when they’re close to making a purchase. In the future, Facebook may include an advertising component to Places
Mark Zuckerberg ,Facebook.
“As of tonight Facebook has become the most important location-based service out there,”
Michael Gartenberg,  Altimeter Group

Places fits with Facebook’s strategy by adding new tools and ocal advertising options.
We can all make money from a user base that surpassed 500 million recently.
We think Facebook’s entry doesn’t mean the immediate death of other location-based services although it will be more intensive effort to evolve them.
Whilst 25% of Facebook users access the site via mobile devices, r a location feature could send a coupon or special offer to users when they’re near a retail area or driving by motorway services.
While others made earlier inroads into the market for location- based services, any user base is dwarfed by Facebook’s.
Facebook makes Places compatible with business site Yelp and will soon be available on the Apple iPhone and elsewhere on the mobile Web.
Protecting Privacy
Places will include comprehensive privacy controls, Facebook said. When users opt in to the service, their locations are only available to friends. They can choose whether to more narrowly share the information or post it broadly.
“Facebook made the absolute right decision by making this opt-in,”  Debra Aho Williamson, EMarketer Inc.
We think these privacy controls are smart and intelligent.
Take a look at Foursquare who reached 1.8 million users in June, up from about 1 million in April.
This makes it worth about fifty million pounds (GBP)

Facebook Entrepreneurship -How To Make Facebook Work For You

Facebook headquarters in downtown Palo Alto, C...Image via Wikipedia

Today we have an average number of 130 friends on Facebook and we seem to spend an awful amount of time in virtual communication
The staggering number reported is currently 8.5 billion hours and we are supported by almost 600,000 Facebook applications as at 1st August 2010 (growing fast)

All of these facts and figures, has knocked the old leader back to the number 19 in the list of most visited websites, MySpace is no longer the most popular social networking site, and that is a situation that seems unlikely to change in the near future.

Now, all of the major community sites do emphasize that the main function is to provide a means for people from all over the world to network with each other.

It would therefore be fair to suggest that most of these sites have (as far as it is possible) tried to discourage commercially orientated sites and have done very well to control how it works.

The great thing is the network soon get fed up with being pitched all day on the next wonder widget and soon disconnect from those sending constant spam.

In other words we vote with our mouse, sites like MySpace and Facebook do not want their communities used by members promoting their products or services to other members.

Despite the fact that it is owned by the Fox Corporation, even MySpace is no exception to this rule, and has gone to some lengths to prevent the site becoming a huge online auction or bazaar by another name.

PPC is a great way to target repeat visitors as we go back and back and back to our chosen site such as Facebook

Facebook PPC isn't a "set it and forget it" medium. PPC basics still apply. Testing, monitoring, and reporting are crucial to achieving the best possible ROI.

Testing Is Crucial
Testing is possibly more critical in Facebook than in traditional PPC. In traditional PPC, intent is clear -- the mere fact that someone searched on a key phrase related to your business indicates a strong possibility that they're interested in what you have to offer.
Facebook, however, is a totally different animal. For one thing, users spend a huge amount of time on the site and seeing the right advert as needed is great and attracting the wrong guest could cost you money

Nevertheless, many smart online marketers and internet entrepreneurs have managed to promote their businesses, products and services through the communities, and have made considerable amounts of money doing so too.

This being the case, many marketers are looking at doing the same with Facebook, and therefore we need to establish what similarities and differences there are between these two sites.

This will assist in establishing whether a similar business model to the one that is now all too commonly applied to MySpace will work with Facebook.

So, let us take a very quick look at how products and services are marketed on MySpace.
Effectively, and at its very simplest and most basic, when you sign up for a MySpace account you will then build your own 'space' which is a very simple mini-website that tells the world all about you.

So, in this 'space', you would probably include full details about yourself, your interests and hobbies, perhaps pictures, videos, musical and rock band preferences, and so on.
The nature of the MySpace social network is that you are then expected to go out into the community and find new friends who have similar interests to yours.

Facebook is addictive and the new disease is called FAD Facebook Addiction Disorder which shows how popular marketing can be and even a summons can be legally served on  Facebook in Austrailia. Wow! That would be handy as in the UK as few scally wags owe me tens or hundreds of thousands after winning an injunction for an Internet against some thieves. They are in hiding and Facebook would be a great place to issue a summons as last time I had a Court Baliff running around the country as they pretended to have vanished!

Facebook does make an awfully high amount of money from advertising on Facebook and thee advertisers do well as the respondents can be highly targeted. Facebook need to make this amount of money as $100million is needed for the next batch of servers to handle all the capacity!

Facebook Entrepreneurship How to Join The Phenomenon For Home and Work

LONDON, ENGLAND - MARCH 25: In this photo ill...Image by Getty Images via @daylife

We understand the nature of the internet has changed significantly over the last two or three years.

You might agree the most obvious change has been the rapid growth of the ‘interactivity' of websites on a truly global scale as a proliferation of new websites and blogs are now Web 2.0 friendly, and the stunning growth in the popularity of social networking sites like Facebook, it is becoming increasingly clear that people all over the world are using the internet as a principal means of communication in ever growing numbers.

We knew it was only time before, businesses both big and small recognised and understood the potential of such websites and networks for expanding their customer bases and bottom line profit.

Just a couple of years ago a large corporate website was purely one dimension in giving information to the visitors, now these sites are rapidly being adapted to offer far greater levels of interactivity to both customers and casual website viewers.

Clients now take advantage of 24/7 ‘Help’ and ‘chat’ lines that are appearing on many large corporate websites with increasing frequency.

We also feedback to companies and share thoughts with other potential clients as we now use more, polls, customer surveys, and inbuilt feedback facilities are becoming ever more popular too.

Now we grasp social networking websites with many millions of individual members from all over the world could potentially represent massive market places for their products.

It is for this reason that a site like MySpace.com (which in September 2007 passed 200 million account holders) has become such an increasingly attractive proposition for advertisers to become involved with. And the fastest growing (March 2010) Facebook tops 400 million users which will soon be the size of a continent!

For this reason, advertising is rapidly becoming an important topic of debate for the Facebook owners, moderators and community members.

The purpose of this blog is a study of how the Facebook site and social networking community is evolving, and how advertising opportunities and promotions or others activities fit into this rapidly expanding development.

Perhaps more importantly, I am going to look in detail at how you and your business will have the chance to use Facebook as a source of new customers for your products and services.

Please note that most commentators will refer to social networking sites as if they are all exactly the same, there are significant differences between them.

These differences serve to make the demographics and practicalities of using these sites for business purposes entirely different from one site to the next, as you are now discovering.

Facebook Background

Unless you have just returned from Mars you will have heard of Facebook and probaly have heard the history.

For any visiting Martians I will repeat the story of Facebook and perhaps identify someother Facebook history as we go.

Facebook was originally founded in 2004 by a group of ex-Harvard university students as a service for students of their own university.

Far from endorsing those who say you can start real website from a few hundred pounds Facebook was kicked of with about £300,000 of investment by a Mr Peter Thiel who was one of the founders of PayPal.

Indeed, over 60% of registered Facebook users are now non-college students, and that figure is expected to increase to over 75% (that will be 100 million users) in the next six months.

Facebook is currently enjoying 80 billion page views per month, and is the sixth most trafficked website in the USA, having recently surpassed eBay, and is now rapidly closing in on Google's traffic figures.

Nor is Facebook still quite so focused on the USA as it once was, with over 10% of Canadians now being Facebook account holders, with fast growing levels in the UK. Amazing to see that 70% of Facebook users are now based outside of the USA.
Hall of Denamark has an active group of about 2.5 million people from over 5 million Facebook users

Right at the start Facebook was almost closed down by a lawsuit from ConnectU this competitor said Mark Zuckerburg of Facebook not only stole the idea but also helped himself to the technology!

At the court door it is said that an investor settled by paying an undisclosed sum to the Claimant.

If you then add in the fact that Microsoft has recently paid $240 million US dollars for a 1.6% stake in Facebook (which values the company at around $15 billion in total) you clearly have a picture of a company and the website that is going places very quickly indeed.

It is clear that Facebook is a website and social community that is enjoying phenomenal levels of growth from what was a relatively closeted and deeply specialised background.

As at August 2010 around 220 million people log into Facebook every single day allowing numbers would to clearly indicate that Facebook could represent a potentially huge market place for any business or organisation who use this means of advertising to the site members.

I personally know people who are closing bricks & mortar as they say Facebook is the next Google Pay Per Click challenger.

Whether it is actually possible to achieve this in your business is one of the critical questions that we are going to look at in more detail with postings on this blog.

The most visited sites for traffic are currently

1. Google
2. Facebook
3. Youtube

Twitter is still behind at number 11 and myspace is now back at number 19

How to get the Facebook community to buy?

Facebook logoImage via Wikipedia

Opportunities To Do Business OTDB is the main aim for ecommerce websites and then converting relevant potential customers to your website, maximising profit at the checkout with a shopping cart full of products, extra revenue with 3-4-2 deals, gift wrap and spend another £50 to be VIP customer with benefits.
With 500 million active users Facebook represents the biggest community of people online and for a long time has been a very attractive audience for all online marketers aiming to increase sales through their online shops.
“How to get the Facebook community to buy?”.
Firstly create product focused content that creates interest around specific projects through detailing features and benefits of a particular product or range of products.
Once your content is read by potential OTDB then they will read and follow through to making a purchase and refer others. After correctly choosing products that interest people, stimulating them with more detail and facts associated with that a particular product may cause them to buy it.
The challenge can be too much like a salesman who will not leave you alone and you are ruining the risk of making that sale by pushing it at them, you risk turning them off and in effect pushing them away from your brand forever.
The alternative approach is to just create general content relevant to any potential purchaser. Don't sell just tell stories around subjects connected to a specific industry that are of interest to your audience.
This information will attract more OTDB to your Facebook presence and convert more sales on your website.
We have proven you can engage with more people if the content is informative enough and your coherent with your brand’s relationship with your target audience.
The content does not have to be 100% informational, you could ask questions about the readers views on a particular packaging style and get feedback on a subject thus  building a  far stronger relationship.
Which approach is more profitable: Direct product focused content; or more community interest information and engagement? Our findings see a mixture of the 2 approaches will work in the longer term.
As a Facebook page can take time to gain full engagement of your followers and get the confidence in replying to postings and hopefully even feeling close and interested enough to actually initiate content relevant to other community members following your brand and page.
E-commerce brands should focus their efforts around building communities of people “liking” them, we call this establishing trust and making friends through Facebook pages firstly.
Next your followers qualify the likes, dislikes, essentials and preferences to make the offering you present grow stronger, more active, more frequent and more engaged then perhaps interspersing slightly more product focused content will keep the attention of a community. This is far more likely of course if the followers are used to interacting with a page’s postings.
Focus on areas of general interest, community oriented and engaging content with small amounts of sales focused content. If the product sales content gains too much presence then people will switch off from the brand again.
How interesting is your content? If the general content fully engages with your community and then your product posting frankly just talks at them then you will not convert anyone to buy.
Do not sell slow moving items work on your best offering as promoting these further will increase sales. Trying to promote ranges of slow selling products that nobody is buying is like pushing water up hill.
Over the top discounts on a product that nobody wants may grab attention for a short time but will anyone actually buy it? If the hurdle to purchase is price then you must look at how and why this works and make sure you are not just passing your worries about non-selling products and how to shift these.
Promote products that buyers like already and use Facebook and other social media to gauge your audiences thoughts and feelings on hot products.
Ultimately if the right products are chosen for promotion through Facebook, the type of promotion is right and the frequency between general community content and product content is balanced then success should occur.
FIVE LAWS OF FACEBOOK SELLING
1.    Build fan community first, get engagement and interactions with your community then drop in interesting selling messages occassionally.
2.    Allow follower numbers to grow naturally without bribery: Targetted Fan Page Ads work but as long as they are real.
3.    Less sell sell sell and more engaging with people “Is design A better than design B?”
4.    Use Facebook to research customers views about products and services
5.    Pushing will not sell will although it can demonstrate you don’t know what OTDB actually want to buy.
